The Black Family Committee of my sorority chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha - Zeta Omega Chapter has submitted a $10,000 Pepsi Refresh grant to support our local YWCA's Home Life Management Center, a transitional housing program for homeless families. The grant will fund automated external defibrillator (AED) machines and computers for the Home Life Management Center. Many public buildings have AEDs to enable a lay person to quickly provide cardiac resuscitation in an emergency. In September, the Program Manager at the Home Life Management Center mentioned that the Center needed two AEDs for the building.

Archives- Quote of the Moment

“When you face your fear, most of the time you will discover that it was not really such a big threat after all. We all need some form of deeply rooted, powerful motivation — it empowers us to overcome obstacles so we can live our dreams.” Les Brown

"My hope is that whatever you do to make a good life for yourself—whether you become a teacher, or social worker, or business person, or lawyer, or poet, or scientist -- you will devote part of your life to making this a better world for your children, for all children. My hope is that your generation will demand an end to war, that your generation will do something that has not yet been done in history and wipe out the national boundaries that separate us from other human beings on this earth."

Howard Zinn 15 May 2005 (Atlanta, GA at My College Commencement)

"Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world." Harriet Tubman

"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common then unsuccessful [people] with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race." Calvin Coolidge

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit." Aristotle

"The past is finished, the future is unknowable- but today is a gift. That's why they call it the present." Unknown

"We judge ourselves by what we feel capable of doing, while others judge us by what we have already done." Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
